Preparations for 14th annual Malverne 5K
The website is in a redesign stage as of this writing. Originally developed 6 years ago, the site was lately not fully compatible with tablets and smartphones. I was procrastinating, but am taking care of it gradually. Some quirks are acceptable, right? Use the Contact tab to let me know, when you encounter some.
Now the business regarding the 14th annual Malverne 5K. At our board of directors meeting (Malverne Educational and Fitness Foundation) on September 5th, the directors approved the artwork for this year (see below). We decided to keep the registration fees at the same, low level of $20 for adults and $5 for youth up to the age of 18 (but for the last time) and we assigned tasks for the day of the run to individual directors and volunteers.

Artwork – 2018 theme
There is a story behind the artwork. Briefly. As you may know, George Matthaei has been designing the annual themes for the past 5 years. And he has created another one for this year. No, this one pictured is not one of his. Instead, a 7th grader drew it and contacted us recently asking when we will open the design contest as in previous years.
We admitted that we haven’t planned to open one this year. (Due to the lack of interest). Yet, we continued talking about the artwork, checked the participants list of past runs and found out that the student-artist and the parents participated in two previous runs. We really could not refuse the initiative of this kid. We’ll use George’s artwork next year. All the themes of the past years that we were able to collect are displayed here. Notice some gaps. Should you have shirts or documents to fill the gaps send us a picture.
Your support is appreciated
If you would like to help with organization of the event that contributed some $97,000 to the local youth in the past 13 years, join us at our last pre-run meeting on October 3rd at Malverne HS library at 7 pm. And if you would like to support the local youth, register for the run on this website. Students up to the age of 18 pay only $5.
The businesses can consider sponsoring the event. The donations are tax deductible. The
Sponsorship formhas all the info. Their logo will appear on the T-shirt, this website, and in the brochure that we are going to publish and distribute to the stores and offices. How is your training going? 44 days to go (as of writing this entry). The XC team (local kids) is ready to challenge the Pink Wave team. A group of girls coming every year from a school in Brooklyn. Strollers (and double strollers) can participate, but must remain in the back. No jogging with strollers allowed.
