The 9th annual Malverne 5K Run and kids fun run proved again to be a great attraction for local runners and walkers. The overcast weather didn’t deter them from registering at the last minute or coming to cheer on their friends. The late comers contributed to the fact that the organizers, the Malverne Educational and Fitness Foundation (MEFF) observed the highest participation in the history of the run. “I am excited”, declared Phyllis Wright, the MEFF president and run director, …the high school gym feels so welcoming and perfect for this event.” Continue reading

5K Run Update & Polar Watch Prize

Malverne 5K RunTen days remain to the Malverne 5K run. You worked out hard to withstand the long distance of 5 kilometers. Could you manage 4 miles? If yes, then you are ready for the Southwest Nassau Run Series, consisting of 4 runs in nearby communities. The online registration is open till October 1st. If you cannot commit time to all four, register for selected runs at the following sites: Malverne, Inwood, Five Towns, Lynbrook. On October 1st also ends the $20 registration fee for the Malverne run and the $25 fee comes in effect. Kids up to the age of 16 pay $5 even on the day of the run regardless of the distance. Although the 200 m run is open to kids up to the age of 11 only. Continue reading

Design for 2013 Malverne 5K runAugust 16–31, the subscribers to this site, the running community and their friends, had an opportunity to select the design theme of their choice. To the left, you can see the design that gathered the most votes. It was submitted by George Matthaei, a Lynbrook resident. Congratulations, George! Pick Your Design


While  the registration for all 4 races of the inaugural Southwest Nassau Run Series has been open already for some time (online registration only), we didn’t open the registration for Malverne 5K run until now. There are both, a single registrant form and a “family” form for multiple registrations available at the Registration page. Don’t delay your registration, though. Only the first 250 registrants (series and Malverne run combined) will have their shirts waiting for them at the registration desk on the day of the run. Not only you’ll have your shirt, but for the first time in the history of Malverne 5K you can let us know (using the form below) what T-shirt design you prefer to wear. Continue reading
